The Learning Center is on Spring Break this week, which means a week to explore beautiful Bolivia! Yesterday, Amanda, Lori, and I went out to lunch at Picolo's, where we first enjoyed dessert and then had a delicious steak and french fries entree. My dessert was dulce de leche crepes, which were absolutely mouthwatering!
After lunch, we ventured on over to the Santa Cruz Zoo, despite the 95 degree weather. When we stepped up to the ticket booth, I found out it only cost 10bs to enter the zoo. That was only $1.50! I was in awe as soon as we walked through the gate. It may not have been as fancy as a zoo from back home, but it didn't take away from all of the exotic and endangered creatures from South America that were there.
I walked around (with my camera) taking it all in. I got to see what seemed like every type of bird to jaguars. The zoo had an aviary, where you could actually walk on a bridge and get super close to the birds. (It felt like walking into Jurassic Park a little bit..thankfully no dinosaurs!) We saw toucans, macaws, woodpeckers, ducks, pigeons, and some other very interesting looking birds. One macaw was perched on the railing, so I decided to take a picture with it. My hand was a little too close, and the bird touched my hand with his beak! It startled me, but was so cool!
While we were looking at some of the monkeys, I realized that one had a baby tucked up next to her tummy. It was so tiny and precious. However, the daddy seemed a little put out as he lounged on his branch all by himself.
Another exciting moment was getting to sit on the "brahma", even though it was not real!
We then walked through the aquarium and reptile buildings. I am praying I never encounter any of the snakes that we saw! From there we saw capybaras, tapirs, pumas, ocelots, jaguars, anteaters, condors, and a sloth!
I felt like a little kid taking it all in! I just marveled at God's unique creation and how it differed from the creatures back home. So thankful for an afternoon of enjoying all of the beautiful animals with two wonderful friends!
